Officiating IGP takes over as IGP

Outgoing Inspector General of Police (IGP) Pradip Shumsher JBR presented the insignia to Acting Inspector General of Police Shyam Bhakta Thapa at a special ceremony held at the police headquarters Sunday.

Earlier the government had decided to designate Additional Inspector General of Police Shyam Bhakta Thapa to work as acting IGP after IGP Rana had taken home leave.

Born on Jestha 22, 2008 B.S. in Gokarna, Kathmandu, Thapa entered the police service on Bhadra 31, 2032 B.S. as a police inspector. Thapa who has a Masters degree in Management in first division has also completed the overseas police officers general course from the United Kingdom, taken the strategic management programme training in Hyderabad, India and undergone the company commander course in Tekpur in India.

Additional Inspector General of Police Ananta Ram Bhattarai, Govinda Prasad Thapa and Rajendra Bahadur Singh, Deputy Inspector General of Police and other senior police officers were present at the investiture ceremony.

The newly confirmed IGP, promoted Deputy Inspector General (DIG) Rajendra Bahadur Singh to the post of Additional Inspector General of Police (AIGP). Singh is most likely to become the IGP after four years. IGP Thapa promised to ensure transparency in the police organization and work towards

consolidating its image.
