The Nepal Sadvawana Party said that the objectionable expressions made by former Chief Justice Biswonath Upadhyaya and CPN-UML central member Pradip Nepal, at an interaction programme organized in the capital on November 26 could fuel anger among the Nepali Madhesi community who constitute nearly half of the country’s population.
Their linking of a sensitive issue like citizenship with the exercise of the Constitution is likely to disturb the national unity and hurt national interests, says the party.
A statement signed by the party’s spokesman Muktinath Mandal says such remarks are an indication of distorted mentality and an effort made to create confusion over the efforts being made by the party’s president who also holds the prestigious post of the country’s Deputy Prime Minister to seek out a solution to the citizenship problem.
