A press statement issued by the NRNA said it welcomes the government’s pledge expressed in the Budget speech of the Finance Minister to create conducive climate for Non-Resident Nepalis to invest their knowledge and capital in the betterment of Nepal.

“By recognizing these long-standing aspirations of overseas Nepali communities, the government has demonstrated its genuine intention to create an environment for our full and continued involvement in the overall development of the nation. The provision of dual citizenship will open doors for people of Nepali origin to make an active contribution towards the socio-economic transformation of the mother country,” the statement quoted NRNA president Dr Upendra Mahato in the letter to the government as saying.

The statement further said NRNA now hopes that the government will follow the declaration with execution such that the new NRN law, expected from the parliament, will address all the concerns of the NRN community and the NRN movement.

Similarly, NRNA has appreciated the statement about making the necessary reforms in both the institutions and laws related to foreign employment, which is making a significant current contribution to the economy of Nepal, the statement adds.

NRNs had recommended the government to implement a number of measures to minimize the plight of overseas Nepali workers and regularize the foreign employment sector in their First Regional Conference held in the capital of Qatar, Doha in 2005.

Finance Minister Dr. Mahat on Wednesday presented a Rs 143.91 billion budget for the fiscal year 2006/07.
