Polymer notes of Rs.10 denomination with the portrait of King Gyanendra, who ascended the throne on June 4, 2001, will be brought into circulation soon for the first time, Nepal Rashtra Bank Governor Dr. Tilak Rawal said.

Currency notes with the King’s portrait have not been issued so far although coins have been minted with his name

The central bank has stopped printing currency notes of Rs.1 and 2 denominations and will also stop printing Rs. 5 denomination currency notes, he said. Coins will replace the notes.

Rs.10 denomination currency notes will be of the lowest value when Rs.1, 2 and 5 currency notes finally are out of circulation.

Ninety-eight Nepalese paper currency notes are currently on display since Tuesday for four days at the exhibition hall of the Nepal Chamber of Commerce to mark its golden jubilee.
