The Nordic Development Fund (NDF) and the Organization of Petroleum Exporting Countries (OPEC) have agreed to finance the Melunchi drinking water project to quench the thirst of Kathmanduites.
They will contribute Rs.1.8 billion for the project, the Finance Ministry said. NDF will chip in an equivalent of Rs.675 million while OPEC will contribute Rs.1207.7 million.
The contributions will help construct a diversion and an access road to the project site. A Finance Ministry representative and representatives of NDF and OPEC signed the loan agreements in Helsinki and Vienna last month.
The Asian Development Bank is leading a consortium for the project; Japan, ADB and several other donors have already pledged contributions.
