Kathmandu : Nepali Congress MPs have emphasized the need for party unity and resolution of in-party wrangling in view of the situation precipitated by the conspiracies from all quarters against democracy.

Speaking at a face-to-face programme organised by Reporters’ Club Nepal here today, the MPs said efforts are being made to finish off the Nepali Congress which has been regarded as a synonym of democracy and in this situation the no-trust motion against the Prime Minister is not relevant and significant.

Stating that majority of the MPs are still in favour of Prime Minister Girija Prasad Koirala, the MPs present at the programme said that the matter should be resolved in accordance with the constitution of the Parliamentary Party.

Speaking on the occasion NC Parliamentary Party Secretary Benupraj Prasain said following the constitution of the party 25 per cent of MPs of the party can bring no-trust motion against the Prime Minister and the secretary has to call a meeting within 15 days to discuss it. The decision of majority will be accepted.

Decision made through open discussion will not divide the Nepali Congress but make it more democratic and intelligent, he added.

Also expressing their views on the occasion were NC central member and MP Krishna Prasad Sitoula, MPs Khemraj Bhatta and Ramchandra Tiwari termed the no-trust motion irrelevant.

MP Krishna Kishore Ghimire, who signed the no-trust motion, expressed confidence that the no-trust motion would be approved.

Stating that the motion was registered after Prime Minister Girija Prasad Koirala failed to fulfill the promises made while assuming power, MP Ghimire said the proposal was forwarded to search another alternative from within the Nepali Congress.
