The Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MoFA) has said there are no reports of casualties of Nepali nationals in the serial blasts in the south-western Indian city of Mumbai on Tuesday.

“We have not received any reports of Nepali nationals caught in the blasts but we are trying to obtain information regarding this,” MoFA spokesperson Yadav Khanal told Nepalnews.

He said the Nepali Embassy in New Delhi has been instructed to obtain information if there were any casualties of Nepalis in the seven blasts in different parts of Mumbai last evening that killed at least 190 people and injured hundreds of others, mostly local train commuters.

Though there are no authentic records, tens of thousands of Nepali nationals live and work in Mumbai. The serial blasts within a matter of half an hour occurred in trains crammed with passengers. No group has owned responsibility for the terror attacks but news reports pointed fingers at Kashmiri separatist outfit, Lashkar-E-Toiba.

Meanwhile, the Government of Nepal has condemned the attacks in different places of Mumbai, expressing sorrow over the casualties of innocent civilians.

Prime Minister Girija Prasad Koirala in a message to Indian Prime Minister Dr Manmohan Singh has condemned the serial terrorist explosions carried out in different parts of Mumbai and Srinagar of India.

“The Prime Minister has also expressed total solidarity with the government and friendly people of India to fight against this scourge of terrorism. This odious crime against humanity deserves the strongest condemnation in all its forms and manifestations,” a MoFA statement said.
