The government has decided to terminate the weekly off given to civil servants on Sundays in the Kathmandu Valley. The new system will come into effect from mid-April 2005 (Baisakh 2062 B.S).
According to Bishwo Prakash Pandit, spokesman, Ministry of General Administration, the government offices will now remain open in six days a week (Sunday-Friday) instead of five. The decision was taken by a cabinet meeting on March 2.
From now on, the working hours will be from 10:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. from Sunday to Thursday and 10:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. on Fridays. Likewise, during three winter months (mid-Nov to mid-Jan) government offices will operate from 10:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m.
In August 2056 B.S, then government had after an amendment to the Civil Servants Regulations decided to provide two-day off to civil servants in the Kathmandu Valley.
Moreover, the government has limited the annual personal leaves of civil servants to three days from six while the six-day casual leaves will remain intact.
