Contradicting with the Maoist stance, CPN (UML) general secretary Madhav Kumar Nepal has ruled out the possibility of an interim government before the management of arms.

“The interim government will be formed only after the management of arms. The Maoists are still continuing their activities such as forming people’s courts, threatening and colleting donations. They must stop thinking that they can win people’s support by such activities, “ reports quoted Nepal as saying while addressing a gathering of party cadres of Seti Zone in Dhangadhi Thursday.

Nepal, however, admitted that the 8-point agreement between the seven-party alliance and the Maoists was signed after discussions with the leaders of the alliance and stressed that the next round of summit talks should be held after proper homework.

The UML general secretary’s statement comes as the Maoist leaders have been saying that the arms management will begin only after an interim government that will be formed with the introduction of the interim constitution.

Maoist chairman Prachanda said in an interaction with the representatives of the Federation of Nepalese Journalists (FNJ) on Thursday that the armies of the state and the Maoists would remain under the interim government and “whoever becomes the Prime Minister of the interim government will be the supreme commander of the joint army”.

He said there would be ‘joint committee’ of the commanders of the Nepali Army and the Maoist People’s Liberation Army (PLA) but the two armies would be kept separately during the interim period.
