No compromise on security, says PM

Amid growing criticisms over worsening law and order situation, Prime Minister Girija Prasad Koirala has said that he will not compromise on democracy and security.

Addressing the national conference of senior police officials at Police Headquarters on Wednesday morning, PM Koirala directed police force to step up activities to improve deteriorating security situation in the country so that conducive environment will be created to hold the constituent assembly election.

Koirala also asked the police force to embrace democratic norms and values in the changed situation. He said he was ready to take any step to strengthen democracy and peace.

The national meet is being attended by senior police officials including Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP), Deputy Inspector Generals (DIGs), Additional Inspector Generals (AIGs) and IG. Such meet used to be held annually in the past but had not taken place since last four years.

After the formal meeting, PM Koirala also held a separate meeting with the top brass of the police force.

Meanwhile, PM Koirala has also held a meeting with the Chief of Army Staff (COAS) General Rookmangud Katawal on Wednesday morning. During the meeting, COAS Katawal is learnt to have briefed latest security situation in the country.
