At a time when the Maoists – who are poised to join the interim government – are talking about the need for revolutionary restructuring of economy, Finance Minister and influential leader of Nepali Congress Dr. Ram Sharan Mahat has said that there is no alternative to liberal economic policies.

Dr. Mahat said that the country will embrace the liberal and open market economic policies even after the elections of the Constituent Assembly (CA).
The Finance Minister said the government formed after the CA will create investment-friendly atmosphere.
Speaking at a programme organised by Nepal-German Chamber of Commerce and Industry in the capital, Saturday, Dr Mahat claimed that after the CA polls, the current situation of unrest will vanish. He urged the investors to come to the country.
At the same programme, German ambassador Franz Ring also urged the government to create conducive atmosphere for business and investment. Likewise, economist Dr. Shankar Sharma said productivity had declined by 30 percent of late due to bandhs, strikes, labour disputes and load-shedding.
