After their agreement, both the Nepal National and International players association (NNIPA) and Nepal Olympic Committee (NOC) has expressed their hopes of a better future for Nepalese sports in the days to come.

NNIPA ended the protest program against NOC from Sunday when the NOC agreed to fulfill all their demands through written documents signed by NOC President Rukma Shumshere Rana and General Secretary of NNIPA Kumar Bahadur Karki. The all-party meeting which was held at National Sports Council formulated the following important points:

1) NOC will provide Rs 100 cash for food daily to the players that are undergoing training for 10th South Asian Games (SAG), on top of sports gear, professional training and pocket money to players.

2) NOC will make public its accounts and will hold election within two months amending its constitution as well.

3) NOC will furnish scholarship programs for the players provided by International Associations taking advice from the NNIPA.

4) NOC will shift its office from Bansbari to National Sports Council’s (NSC) premises.

5) NOC must co-ordinate with all National Sports Association’s and include two NNIPA members in the NOC executive committee.

6) NOC will provide due allowances of players that took part in Athens Olympic within 15 days.

7) NOC agreed to increase the number of players participating in the 10th SAG whereby minimising the number of coaches and officials.

“This is historic moment for us,” General Secretary of NNIPA Kumar Bahadur Karki said adding, “We are now hoping for transparent and healthy system in the NOC and cordial relationship between them (NOC) and players. President of NOC, Rukma Shumshere Rana also promised a good sporting environment and said, “NOC will not leave any room for criticism from players.”

NNIPA had locked NOC office for a few days demanding assurance and benefits for players and held the first round of talks which was unsuccessful resulting in a 48 hour ultimatum to the NOC.

Meanwhile, the Nepal Archery Association selected six archers for the 10th South Asian Games slated for August 18-28 in Colombo, Sri Lanka.

The six were selected from 21 who were undergoing training in Pokhara and Kathmandu. Kishore Gurung, Deepak Raj Gurung, Ramesh Bhattachan, Prem Chochang, Yogendra Sherchan and Binod Gauchan will participate in the individual and team events at the SAG.
