Stating that education is a fundamental right guaranteed in the interim constitution, the National Human Rights Commission (NHRC) has issued a statement appealing to immediate end of strike in schools.

The Commission has said that apart from constitution, international conventions to which Nepal is a state party, too, prohibits violating children’s right to education.

“The Commission’s attention has been seriously drawn by the indefinite strike due to which future of over 7 million children has become uncertain,” the statement says.

The Commission has urged the government, agitators, school management and other stakeholders to ensure smooth resumption of schools.

Due to strike by Nepal Educational Republican Front, schools have remained closed for the past one week.
