Newar community in Bhaktapur worship frogs

People belonging to the Newar community worshipped frogs on the occasion of Janai Poornima last week, reports said.

On the day of Janai Purnima on Friday, farmers visited their fields and fed frogs as they regard them as a natural god that helps bring rain and irrigate their fields, reports said Sunday. The tradition is known as ‘Byanja Nakegu’ in Newari.

Worship of frogs are also mentioned in the Hindu’s religious literature -Rudrayamalatantra epic, it is stated.
