A new species of bird “Tibetan Sand grouse” (Syrrhaptes Tibetanus) has been spotted at the Damodar Kunda area of Upper Mustang region in Nepal, the RSS reported.
The bird was first sighted on June 19, 2002 by a team conducting a survey of an area under the Upper Mustang Biodiversity Conservation Project of the King Mahendra Trust for Nature Conservation (KMTNC).
The bird is about 48 cm long (larger than the house crow) and found in Tibetan plateau country between 4,200 and 5,600 metres and is sandy colored.
