Nepal Stock Exchange (NEPSE) index lost 4.37 points over the week to close at 660.36 points on Thursday, due to investors’ low level confidence towards the country’s sole secondary market.
As per a statement of the NEPSE, a total of 264,300 units of shares of 102 companies were traded on its floor. The turnover for the week amounted to Rs 188.68 million, down from 267.22 million in the last week. Of the total transactions, turnover of category ‘A’ companies alone valued at Rs 119 million, which accounts for 63.07 percent of the total turnover this week.
As far as performance of different groups goes, the index of commercial banks tumbled by 3.32 points over the week while the indices for development banks, finances and insurance companies dropped by 13.92 points, 9.25 points and 8.43 points respectively.
However, hotels and hydropower groups witnessed their indices moving up by 3.87 points and 0.71 points respectively The index of trading groups remained unchanged at 214.08 points throughout the week. nepalnews.com Apr 11 09
