The uncertainty about Nepal’s participation in the upcoming South Asian Federation (SAF) Games became more coherent as the newly set-up Nepal Olympic Committee (NOC) could not express commitment for Nepal’s participation in a press meet on Sunday .
In the press meet called by NOC and attended by Nepalnews, Kishor Bahadur Singh, President of NOC, was reluctant to assure the players and sports related personalities about Nepal’s participation in the mega event.
Though he said that Nepal would not face any restriction from the international sports governing bodies, he declined to take the responsibility if anything such happened in the future.
Singh said, “President of sacked NOC, Rukma Shumsher Rana and his faction are responsible for the prevailing row. So, they should take the responsibility if anything bad happens.”
Talking about the “miss deeds” and “manipulations” of sacked NOC, Treasurer of the new NOC, Lok Bahadur Shahi said the government decision to deregister the NOC was essential to stop fund embezzlement and to develop Nepali sports.
Condemning the letters sent by different international sports governing bodies, Singh said they have made “biased” decision listening to only one party.
He said, “International sports officials are ignorant about the expulsion of NOC led by Rukma Shumsher Rana.”
“They have not heard us yet,” he said. “So, we have sent the letter to South Asia Sports Federation (SASF) and International Olympic Committee explaining about the whole issue. We hope everything will be settled down.” nepalnews.com rs Jan 25
