Member of Rajparishad standing committee, Dr. Swami Prapannacharya, has said Nepalis should not forget their duty towards the motherland wherever they are.
Addressing a function organized on the occasion on National Unity Day and Prithvi Jayanti by Matribhumi Sevak Sangh (MSS)—a volunteer-based organisation—at Balkumari, Lalitpur on Wednesday, Swami Prapannacharya said Nepalis could have their identity as long as Nepal as a nation existed. He said Nepal was a garden of various flowers and that people should uphold their religion and culture whatever the circumstances. He also deliberated on the role of monarchy in national unity.
Former vice chancellor of Mahendra Sanskrit University, Madhav Raj Gautam, said King Prithvi Narayan Shah had played a historic role in unifying the country. He said Nepali culture was a culture of unity in diversity and that all should work towards unity in the country and society.
Vice chairman of MSS, Bharat Mani Risal, said time had come for every one to think and work towards national unity. He said MSS was a social organisation working towards producing “good citizens” who were proud of their identity, religion and culture. He said good culture had to be nurtured right from the childhood.
MSS runs Hindu Vidyapeeth Nepal (HVPN) schools at Balkumari, Lalitpur; Thali, Kathmandu and Ghorahi, Dang, where nearly 1,200 students are studying at present. HVPN schools impart scientific education to the students in English medium while keeping them well-versed in Sanskrit literature and the country’s rich heritage.
President of MSS, Bindu Lal Shrestha, presided over the function. MSS observes National Unity Day as “Samarpan Divas” every year, according to the organizers.
