Nepalis living in the New York area have staged a protest rally in front of the United Nations Headquarters against the brutal murder of innocent Nepali workers by Iraqi terrorists on August 31.

Holding placards and banners with messages for peace and against terrorism, they also demanded that the murderers be brought to justice, a press release by Nepal Community in New York Area said.

More than 50 Nepalis and leaders of Nepali community in New York had participated in the protest rally. The protestors criticized Nepal government “for not making immediate and exhaustive efforts to secure the release of the 12 Nepali hostages”.

The participants of the protest rally also condemned the attacks on Mosques, businesses and media houses carried out by the frenzied mob in Nepal in protest of the killings of Nepalis in Iraq and urged all Nepalis not to resort to violence against fellow Nepalese who have coexisted in peace and harmony for centuries, the press release said.

According to the press release, the protestors will also forward a letter to UN general secretary Kofi Annan, urging him to take tough measures to protect innocent lives around the world. nepalnews.com amt Sept 10 04
