Nepali U-17 defeats Qatar, reaches next round

Nepali Under-17 team Wednesday defeated Qatar by 164 runs in the second league match of the Asia Cup Cricket Tournament, securing its position unto the next round, reports from Vishakhapatnam, India said.

In the 45 overs’ match, Nepal batted first and made 247 runs, which was a difficult target for the opposition. Qatar, in reply, could only make 83 runs being all out in 24 overs. Raj Shrestha caused the major damage to Qatar as he took seven wickets. Shrestha gave only 16 runs in 6 overs’ spell while taking those wickets.

In batting, Paras Khadka and Sharad Vesawker completed half centuries contributing 84 and 66 runs respectively.

Mahesh Chhetri, who was man of the match during Nepal’s fixture with Malaysia, made 34 runs.

As Nepal has advanced to the second round, they will now join Group D winner and Test playing nations India and Pakistan, according to reports. Nepal has its next fixture on January 19.
