A team of local Nepali administrators led by Chief District Officer of Jhapa Jaya Mukunda Khanal has left for Panitanki, India to talk with Indian authorities regarding the growing unrest in Mechi border region.

The delegation also includes representatives of eight parties and the refugee leaders.

Tens of thousands of Bhutanese refugees continue to stage sit-in at the bridge demanding that they be let across the bridge and into Bhutan. One refugee was killed on Tuesday after Indian police opened fire at the refugees.

On Wednesday, too, the refugees have continued their sit-in programme at Mechi bridge.

There is huge deployment of Indian security personnel to prevent the refugees from crossing the bridge. The refugees are launching “Long March” to return to their homeland Bhutan.

Meanwhile, a group of Bhutanese refugees also held a demonstration in front of Indian embassy in Kathmandu, on Wednesday morning, protesting the excesses by Indian authorities against refugees trying to cross Mechi bridge.
