The Nepali Diaspora in Belgium has demanded that Nepal be declared a republic through the Interim House to meet the interest and aspirations of the people.
In a joint appeal sent to Prime Minister Girija Prasad Koirala, the Nepalis Democratic Republic Front, Nepali People’s Dynamic Forum, Nepali Indigenous People’s Concern Forum and United Nepali Front blamed Nepali Congress as being the main obstacle to the establishment of republic in Nepal.
They accused the Nepali Congress and its leadership of following the interest of ‘expansionists’ and ‘imperialists’, which has blurred the dream of establishing a new Nepal.
The organisations have also claimed that Nepali Congress, ignoring the sentiments of the people expressed during the Jana Andolan II, has begun advocating in favour of monarchy.
They have also demanded voting rights of the Nepali Diaspora, establishment of federal government with guarantee of self-determination, announcement of the date for constituent assembly polls, publishing of the Rayamajhi commission report and actions against the persons recommended by the commission, end of the foreign interference and exemption of the agriculture loans of the farmers.
In the meantime, the Nepali People’s Dynamic Forum and United Nepali Front held an interaction programme with visiting Health Minister Giriraj Mani Pokhrel on May 18.
The speakers of the programme stressed the need to announce Nepal a republic through the interim parliament immediately. General secretary of the forum Dadhi Ram Ghimire said the struggle for people’s right in Nepal has not ended and that Nepalis in Europe would also take part in the next round of movement if parties fail to announce republic.
Minister Pokhrel said constituent assembly polls have been delayed due to influences of the international power players. He said Nepali Congress was to be blamed for this.
