Nepal stun Maldives

Nepal stunned Maldives to a 251 runs victory to emerge at the top of Group B in the third Under-19 Youth Asia Cup-2001 cricket tournament being played in the capital Saturday. Nepal won all three group matches.

Nepal scored 307runs for the loss of six wickets in 50 overs after electing to bat on winning the toss. This was the highest score of the eight-nation tournament as Shakti Gauchan hit the tournament’s first century; he was stumped by the wicketkeeper after hitting exactly 100 runs off 107 deliveries.

Nepal set Malaysia set an impossible target of scoring 308 runs in 50 overs; the visitors were all out for 56 runs in 28 overs.

Manumit Crests took five wickets for 20 runs in 10 overs while captain Binod Das took three wickets by conceding only nine runs in 9.2 overs. Shakti Gauchan and Manjit Shrestha were declared the men of the match. Singapore has also entered the semi-finals from the group.
