A proposal on facilitation of Nepal peace process presented by UN Secretary General Ban Ki Moon will be taken up for discussion by the Security Council today.

After the report is discussed and endorsed by the 15-member Security Council, the total number of UN arms and electoral monitors as well as other necessary logistical issues will be finalised.

Following the Security Council’s approval, the proposal will be presented at the budgetary committee for the authorisation of necessary budget for the whole process.

Ian Martin, Personal Representative of the UN Secretary General, is currently in New York. He left for New York last week with the mission of updating the progress of Nepal peace process to the member states of the Security Council and to help in finalisation of planning and budgeting.

Earlier, based on report by Technical Assistant Mission, 35 arms monitors and 25 electoral monitors have already been authorised. Of the 35 arms monitors, 13 have already started their job following a brief training.
