KATHMDNU: Nepal is being represented at the Heritage Festival in Edmonton Canada for the first time in the 27 year history of the festival, a press release of the Nepali Canadian Society of Edmonton said. The Heritage Festival is being held from August 3-5, 2002.
The main objective of the Edmonton Heritage Festival is to present an annual family oriented multicultural festival which focuses on the traditional foods, crafts, costumes, and performing arts of ethnic cultures originating from around the world to raise public awareness, understanding, and appreciation for the ethnic pride and cultural diversity which characterizes the unique international community in Edmonton and across Canada.
The Nepali Canadian Society of Edmonton is using 900 square feet of tent to prepare Nepali food items such as Kalo Daal, Bhaat, Tarkari, Chicken Curry and MoMo for the visitors. Nepali sarbaat (juice) will also be served.
“Nepal: in crafts and colors” will be presented using 400 square feet of tent during the three days of the Festival. The tent will have decorations of various Nepalese handicrafts, crafts, arts, paintings such as Thankas and posters of Mount Everest, Pasupatinat Temple, Swayambhunath, Goddess Kumari, Gautam Buddha, Nyatapola and others.
A videocassette “ MOUNT EVEREST AND MORE” will be played during the festival and publicity materials, maps, bookmarks will be exhibited at or distributed from Nepal showcase. Various Nepali songs and music will be played during the Festival.
The Nepali Canadian Society of Edmonton was established in 1999 and incorporated in the Province of Alberta, Canada with an objective of promoting and developing Nepalese Culture, Arts, Music, Tradition and Heritage. Rameshwar Adhikari is the current President.
More than 52 unique ethnic and cultural organizations, representing nearly half the world’s nations and cultures, will be coming together in one location, at one time to celebrate the spirit of ethnic identity, acceptance and friendship. This festival was visited by over 350,000 people last year.
