Pakistan shattered Nepal’s dream to advance into the semifinals of the ongoing Under-17 Asia Cup in Bangalore, India, as they won the match by 129 runs on Tuesday, reports said.

Pakistan scored 269 runs off 7 wickets in the allotted 45 overs after they won the toss and elected to bat first.

Bantu Bataju made a promising start as he removed both the openers for 53 runs. Bataju bowled Yasir Arafat at 8 while Nasir Jamshid was caught by Paras Kahadka off Bataju after he scored 37 runs.

However, Pakistan’s middle order compensated the early loss and set up the huge total. Rameez Raja scored 38 runs before he was run out while Faiz Ahmed contributed 47 runs.

Adnan Raza Ali was the highest scorer with an unbeaten 59 runs off just 51 balls. His score included three fours.

Wagas Haroon was cheaply out at 1 off Angel Acharya but K Raja Ali Dar recovered the loss scoring 45 runs.

In reply, chasing a formidable 270 runs target, Nepal scored 140 runs off 7 wickets. Though the 75 runs opening partnership of Sharad Vesawkar and Pawan Das gave a flying start to Nepal’s inning, the middle order and lower order batsmen completely failed to keep the momentum.

Sharad Vesawkar scored 37 runs before he was trapped lbw by Tahzeeb while Pawan Das was bowled by Fiaz Ahmed after he scored 19 runs.

Except the openers, none of the Nepalese batsmen reached double figures. Mahesh Chhetri was out for a duck off Fiaz Ahmed while skipper Paras was out at 3.

For Pakistan Fiaz Ahmed and Raja Ali and Tahzeeb claimed two scalps each.

Nepal plays Bahrain on Thursday.
