In a message to Chinese President Hu Jintao, on the occasion of the establishment of 50 years of diplomatic relations between Nepal and China, King Gyanendra said, “It is a matter of great satisfaction that our relations are marked by mutual respect and understanding in an atmosphere of mutual trust and friendship.
Similarly, in a congratulatory message to His Majesty the King, Chinese President Hu said, “For 50 years since the diplomatic ties were established, China-Nepal relations have stood the test of changes of international vicissitudes, and made steady headways.” Hu further said China wants to ‘consistently consolidate and strengthen China-Nepal good neighbourly and cooperative relations on the basis of five principles of peaceful co-existence. It is not only in line with fundamental interests of the two countries, but also conducive to peace, stability and development in South Asia.

Nepal and China had established their diplomatic relations on August 1, 1955. A number of programmes are being organised in both the countries to mark the golden jubilee of the important event. Foreign Minister Ramesh Nath Pandey is leaving for Beijing on August 13 to take part in special ceremony, officials said.
While Nepal supports the one-china policy and forbids all kinds of anti-China activities in her soil, China doesn’t interfere into Nepal’s domestic affairs. The latest example being Chinese assertion that royal takeover on February 1 this year was “Nepal’s internal matter.”
