A two-day meeting between Nepali and Chinese officials on regulating the boundary issues ended in the Nepali capital, Kathmandu on Tuesday with both sides agreeing to maintain and regulate the bordering pillars along the Nepal-China border by 2006.
According to Nepali officials, the meeting reviewed a report over the issue prepared by concerned officials of the both countries during the last ten years.
Nepal and China share a 1414 kilometer border which is demarcated by 50 pillars from the Chinese side and 48 from the Nepali side. The 1963 protocol on Nepal China border says that half of the boundary pillars will be looked after by Nepal and half by its northern neighbour.
The Nepali team was led by Hira Bahadur Thapa, Joint Secretary at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs while Li Qingyun, senior advisor on boundary issues at the Chinese Ministry of Foreign ministry led the Chinese side.
The next meeting is scheduled for November 2005 in Beijing.
