Nepal-Bhutan JVT team inspects camps

Bhadrapur, Jan. 27 : The Nepal-Bhutan Joint Verification Team (JVT) recently formed for the verification of Bhutanese refugees staying in various camps in Jhapa and Morang districts, concluded on site inspection of all the refugee camps today.

The JVT is scheduled to discuss on Monday matters concerning setting up of the office for the verification team and decide from which camp it should initiate the verification, according to Mrs Usha Nepal who is heading the Nepalese side in the joint team.

Dr Sonam Tenzing is leading the Bhutanese side in the JVT formed under the mutual agreement of the Nepalese and Bhutan governments.

Upon arrival at the camp site for on site inspection the Bhutanese team, which came here via Kakarvitta on Wednesday, was given an emotional welcome by the refugees.

According to the refugees, the Bhutanese team in course of its inspection asked the refugees about the villages and districts where they came from, the reasons why they fled their homeland and the like.

There are a total of 98,886 Bhutanese refugees in various camps, according to Nepal Red Cross Society, 48,870 refugees are in Jhapa Beldangi Camp, 8,832 in Goldhap Camp, 9,407 in Timai Camp, 12,447 in Khudunabari Camp and 19,330 in Porang Pathari Camp.
