Journalists and other staff working in the Nepal office of the Nepal 1 television channel held discussions with general secretary of the UML Madhav Kumar Nepal and Peace and Reconstruction Minister Ram Chandra Poudel on Monday to seek support to their ongoing protests.
During the meeting, Nepal expressed commitment to support the movement since the demands put forward by the journalists and staff of the TV channel were genuine.
Similarly, minister Poudel has assured that the government would take initiative to solve the problems faced by the journalists and staff. Poudel said the demands put forth were genuine and the government would take it seriously.
The agitating journalists today also asked the cable TV operators to stop the transmission of Nepal 1 TV within Nepal immediately.
Journalists of the TV channel have been agitating against the management of the TV channel demanding timely payment of salary, increment in salary, end of misbehaviour and provision of provident fund among others.
Federation of Nepalese Journalists (FNJ) and various other media organisations, trade unions and political parties have expressed support to the agitation by the journalists.
