High level official talks between Nepal and India are taking place in the capital Saturday to arrive at an agreement on starting direct road transport.

The last talks held in New Delhi five months back had ended inconclusively. Nepal and India had agreed to initiate the process to begin direct road transport between the two countries and also operationalize the Birgunj dry port within two months at the time of the India visit of the then Prime

Minister Sher Bahadur Deuba a year ago.

Both rounds of transport talks had failed after India had proposed that it should be allowed to transport cargo to Nepal without any restrictions.
