With the possibility of the two factions of Nepali Congress (NC) heading towards reunification four years after their split, political leaders and analysts have said that the parties must immediately be unified as the split has lost its significance in the changed political scenario.

The reunification drive between the NC and NC (Democratic) gained momentum after Nepali Congress President, Prime Minister Girija Prasad Koirala, proposed it during the party central committee meeting last week.

Speaking at a program organized by New Media Club in the capital on Friday, NC General Secretary Ram Chandra Poudel said that the parties must immediately be unified, adding, “The prime minister is not in favor of reunification only for power sharing, and added that it must be for strengthening peace and democracy. ”

Likewise, central member of NC (D) Deep Kumar Upadhyaya called for joint convention of both the parties to declare party merger.

Political analyst Nilambar Acharya said reunification must also establish the previous rationale behind the party split and added that the leaders would also do well to mend their ways.

Another political analyst Dr Yagya Adhikary stressed on unconditional reunification.

The party divided into two factions due to the dispute of extending the state of emergency declared by the then Prime Minister Sher Bahadur Deuba.
