The Nepal Army (NA) has taken into custody Colonel Raju Basnet of the Bhairavnath Battalion for investigation into the alleged disappearances of 49 people detained at the Battalion.
Reports quoted the Directorate of Public Relations as saying that a taskforce was formed to investigate the incident.
A report of the UN Office of the High Commissioner for Human Rights (OHCHR) in Nepal has presented a report saying that the Battalion under the command of Basnet played an important role for disappearances of people and recommended for action.
According to reports, the taskforce was headed by Director of Army Training Directorate 2nd Lieutenant Sarad Neupane.
The report of the OHCHR in Nepal concluded that the Bhairavnath Battalion of NA under the command of Basnet played a leading role in disappearance of people and tortured detainees in Jagadal, Yudhabhairav and Bhairavnath Battalions of NA under the number 10 Brigade.
