A facilitator for the Informal Sector Service Centre’s (INSEC) peace movement, Chet Prakash Khatri, was anonymously strangled to death Thursday in the Maoist stronghold Phattepur Sarra in Banke district, reports said.
Two people were involved in the murder of Khatri, who was a resident of Moddhui in Binauna village, Khatri’s sister said, quoting shepherd children, according to the reports.
However, the locals expressed ignorance about the incident, the reports said. Ram Dip Tharu, a local resident, said the villagers sent the body back to Khatri’s home on a bullock-cart and claimed he did not know anything else about the incident, the Himalayan Times said.
Bhola Mahat, regional coordinator of INSEC, hoped that the mystery behind the murder would be solved soon. “The case is under investigation,” the daily quoted Superintendent of Police Shri Bahadur Ghale of Banke district, as saying.
According to the daily, the chief of the village people’s government (Maoist rebel’s local political unit) has denied any involvement of Maoists in the murder. nepalnews.com mr Dec 26
