Indian ambassador to Nepal Shiv Shankar Mukherjee met with Prime Minister Girija Prasad Koirala Saturday afternoon and discussed the current political situation in Nepal, particularly the tension in Terai region.

During the half-hour long meeting at the Prime Minister’s residence in Baluwatar, the Prime Minister informed the Indian envoy about the government’s position regarding the probable date for constituent assembly polls.

Koirala told Mukherjee that a meeting of the eight-party alliance to be held within a few days would fix the election date, reports said.

Mukherjee is also learnt to have expressed the Indian government’s concern over the growing chaos in Terai.

This was the second meeting between the Indian ambassador and PM Koirala in less than two weeks.
