MPs worried over law and order

Kathmandu, June 19): Members of Parliament took part in the discussion on law and order, the effect of rain and the airline during special time at the meeting of the House of Representatives today.

The first speaker during special time Lal Babu Pandit of CPN-UML said the law and order situation has deteriorated in Morang district because of Superintendent of Police Kalyan Timilsina and workers of his party are being implicated in false charges by accusing them of being Maoists. He demanded the transfer of Timilsina and urged measures to operate Biratnagar Jute mill that closed from Jeth 16.

Bhakta Bahadur Balayar of the Nepali Congress said as considerable loss has been incurred from rain of Jeth 24 in Doti and other places in the far western region , relief should be given there , and medicines should be provided as epidemics have been increasing, and demanded arrangements for providing identity cards to all the voters.

Shiva Kumar Basnet of the NC said the ruling party and opposition should not engage in political horse race and benefits and take responsibilities for the future of the country and the people while resolving the Maoist problem.

Parashu Ram Meghi Gurung of the CPN-UML demanded investigation and action against the officer who gave appointment to teachers in return for ghee and money by trampling upon the laws at a time when investigation is going on into the irregularities taking place in the publication of the results for teachers for 28 schools in Sankhuwasabha.

Ramesh Dutta Lekhak of the NC said there should be investigations whether it was proper to give compensation on the basis of discussion without countering the case filed in the international court by contractors in connection with the construction of the second phase of the Mahakali Irrigation Project.

Shiva Raj Joshi( Dailekh) of the NC demanded resumption of movement on the Surkhet – Dailekh road and relief to most of the houses developing cracks.

Birodh Khatiwada of CPN-UML questioned as to what agreements the Foreign Minister concluded in India and demanded information on the ground handling of the Indian Airlines at the Tribhuwan International Airport as well as on issuing letters to 330 employees and dissociating them from service since Asar 7.

Dr. Ram Sharan Mahat of NC accused that our intelligence service has been weaker before the incidents of breaking of law and order and terrorism.

He emphasised the need to prepare an overall strategy in the presence of the government, the army , police and political parties and civil society by reviewing every thing regarding the problem of the Maoists.

While Mahat was presenting his views the speaker pointed out the need for all to sit at the table as the problem will not be solved with the ruling party MPs speaking and the opposition supporting by clapping their hands.
