Members of the Parliament have objected to the Maoist activities forcing the local residents of the capital city to feed their cadres and give shelter.
Speaking at the special hour of the parliament session on Tuesday, CPN (UML) MP Pradeep Nepal criticised the government for failing to provide security to the Kathmandu residents and demanded that the Home Minister resign on moral grounds.
Other MPs also sought government’s attention towards the security situation and asked the Maoist leadership to step such activities.
MP Devendra Raj Kadel expressed concern over the ‘excesses’ of the Maoists and said that the rebels had been carrying out forceful activities in towns across the country despite the ceasefire.
There are reports that the Maoists have been forcing local people to accommodate their cadres in their houses and feed them until November 10. They have planned a mass meeting at the Khula Manch on that day. Maoist chairman Prachanda would be addressing the mass after 25 years.
Thousands of party cadres have been ferried to Kathmandu for the mass meeting and this is expected to continue for the next few days. Maoists claim that they would bring over one million people in the capital for the mass meeting.
