MPC lifts league title; Hari Khadka wins Toyota Yaris car

Mahendra Police Club (MPC) lifted the Martyrs Memorial A Division League football tournament on Thursday defeating Tribhuvan Army Club (TAC) by two goals to nil.

TAC only needed a draw to win the championship but their hopes were crushed when MPC scored two successive goals in the second half.

Though the first half ended in a goalless draw, Ramesh Budathoki scored the first goal and Jumanu Rai scored the second for MPC in an action packed second half.

Though TAC had two golden opportunities to put the ball in the back of the net, Bikarna Shrestha failed to do so.

MPC bagged a purse of two million rupees after becoming the league champions while TAC won 1 million rupees.

After winning the coveted league title, MPC will now represent Nepal in the AFC President’s Cup football tournament to be held in Lahore in Pakistan this May. The tournament carries a purse of 50 thousand dollars.

In the first game held on Thursday, Sankata Club defeated New Road Team by two goals to one.

At the end of the season, Nabil Three Star Club secured third position with 57 points and bagged a purse of 500,000 rupees.

Defending champions Manang Marsyangdi Club had to be satisfied with fourth position with 55 points and won 300,000 rupees.

Armed Police Club was fifth bagging a cash prize of 200,000 rupees while Machhindra Club was sixth winning 100,000 rupees.

NIBL Friends Club was seventh bagging a cash prize of 60,000 rupees while New Road Team was eight winning 40,000 rupees. Teh Fair play team was Machhindra Energizer FC (MEFC) which recieved 50,000 rupees.

In the indivual awards, Hari Khadka of MPC was declared the best player and won a Toyota Yaris car. The other winners were:

Highest Goal Scorer: Anil Gurung (MMC) with 31 goals

Best Goalkeeper: Surendra Lal Shrestha (NRT)

Best Defender: Anjan K.C. (NTSC)

Best Midfielder: Raju Tamang: (TAC)

Best Striker: Bikarna Shrestha (TAC)

Best Coach: Birat Krishna Shrestha (MPC)

They all stand to win one Yamaha motorcycle each.

Speaker Subash Nemwang and Minister for education and sports Dr. Mangal Siddhi Manandhar distributed the prizes.
