The fee recommendation committee for public schools, formed by the Ministry of Education and Sports has recommended doubling the amount of investment made in public high schools, the Rising Nepal said Wednesday.
According to the recommendation report forwarded by the committee, the government has been spending Rs.2,300 on every student enrolled in high school, the daily said. “The report recommended raising this to Rs.4,300.”
The report has also proposed allotting more than 17 percent of the national budget to the education sector. Currently the country spends 15 percent of the total budget, or Rs.15.61 billion, on the sector, said the daily.
The Ministry had formed the committee after seven student unions, affiliated to different political parties, launched a stir demanding free school education.
