Kathmandu, May 23: Manang Marshyangdi Club (MMC) maintained its wining streak and topped the table with a seventh convincing win over Kathmandu Club 5-0 while Jawalakhel Youth Club struggled to beat Bansbari Club 2-1 in the on going Martyrs Memorial League at the National Dashrath Stadium, Tuesday.
MMC, top leader of the league had to wait 14th minute to open the door despite of having better look than the rival’s from the outset of the game. Though, the Kathmandu boys did manage to have a couple of good shoots into well fortified MMC goal mouth in the early minutes of the first half.
Rabindra Shrestha and Rajib Shrestha lead the early attacks for Kathmandu Club but lack of finish and cohesion among them ruled them out to open the account. On the other side after taking lead MMC took the game well under control and totally destroyed rival’s defence. However, Kathmandu Club’s keeper, Suraj Manandhar daring saves helped the team saved the day from being humiliated.
In the day’s first game, Jawolakhel Club failed to live up to its reputation. Though the JYC even after taking a lead in the first half struggled to overcome Bansbari boys in the second. However, seizing rival’s lack of confidence, JYC finally collected full points.
MMC as the game progressed launched pressure into the rival’s post attacking from all sides of the ground. Rajan and Basanta took the charge in the front while Basanta Gauchan, Rajesh Shahi and Kumar Thapa were the key figures in supplying it.
After several close calls by Basanta Thapa and Rajan, Rajkumar consolidated the lead in the 36th minute through cross from Rajan. Within a minute, MMC nearly enlarged the margin but Kathmandu keeper, Suraj Manandhar saved the day the day off a close range shot fired by Basanta Thapa.
After the lemon break, MMC continued to shower with shots but either the defenders foot came on their ways or the keeper Manandhar displaying superb play denied them.
However, in the 5th minute, Anil Subba widened the margin from a free-kick fired by striking zone which landed inside the net touching one the rival’s defenders leg.
In the 19 the minute Rajan opened up his account through a pass from Kumar Thapa while after failing to score in given opportunities, Basanta added his day’s second goal in the dying minutes.
Jang Bahadur Dhimal gave JYC the dream lead in the 35 minutes with perfect pass from Meg Raj KC in the first half while he again helped to consolidated the lead in the 61st minutes of the second half through Sanu Bhai’s long range volley.
Though, the JYC seemed to have making perfect beginning but as the flew by, JYC boys were trapped knee deep due to the poor game planning and lack of cohesion.
Bansbari could have escaped with the win as they put out heat to the JYC but ill directed shots and poor game play ruined them at the last. Bharat Lama had scored the lone goal for Bansbari in the 10th minute of the lemon break.
