Mismanagement in education discussed

Kathmandu:  An interaction was held between the Minister for Education and Nepal University Teachers’ Association (NUTA) central committee office-bearers here recently on ending the state of uncertainty and mismanagement seen in the education sector.

On the occasion, the NUTA central committee officials expressed the view that a permanent education council should be established at the Ministry of Education to look after all matters relating to education and that there should be coordination between the academic programmes at the school level and the higher secondary school level.

They said that appropriate policies should be formulated regarding ending various uncertainties seen at the regional and national universities in the light of the concept of multiple universities and that uniformity should be brought about in the academic calendars of the public schools and the schools run in the private sector.

In response to the points raised at the seminar, Education Minister Amod Prasad Upadhyaya and Minister of State for Education Dilendra Badu said that the problems have been come up due to the very feeble management and follow-up measures and the Ministry of Education would take necessary steps to resolve the problems.

The Minister and the Minister of State for Education expressed the view that such interactions should be held regularly from time to time between the Ministry and the university teachers in order to end the situation of uncertainty in the education sector and create a favourable environment.

They also informed that initiatives were being taken to constituting the 38th annual National Education Coordination Committee of NUTA. Central president of NUTA Bhimsen Das Pradhan chaired the interaction programme.

Meanwhile, a talk programme was organised at the Tri-Chandra college on the occasion of the anniversary day of NUTA on Monday.

On the occasion, Vice-Chancellor of Tribhuvan University Dr Navinprakash Jung Shaha, chairman of the University Grants Commission Dr Devendra Raj Mishra, registrar Nilkantha Lal Shrestha, vice-chaiman of the higher education council Narayan Kunwar former president of NUTA Keshabananda Giri, NUTA general secretary Guna Nidhi Neupane, secretary Chitra Bahadur Basnet and others spoke on the need for the NUTA to work for enhancing the quality of education and to fight for the professional interests of the university teachers by maintaining their dignity and respect.

NUTA president Bhimsen Das Pradhan presided. A blood donation programme was also held on the occasion in which 30 persons donated blood.
