Foreign Minister Ramesh Nath Pandey greeted his Indian counterpart, Kunwor Natwar Singh, at the VVIP lounge of the Tribhuvan International Airport on Monday as the latter was on his way to Bhutanese capital, Thimpu.

Talking to reporters afterwards, Minister Pandey said his discussion with Indian Foreign Minister was the continuation of their meeting in New York on the sidelines of the UN General Assembly. He did not elaborate.

Minister Singh did not speak to reporters.

Meanwhile, official Indian news agency PTI reported that during his three-day visit to Bhutan, Minister Singh will have an audience with Bhutan’s King Jigme Singye Wangchuk and hold discussions with his counterpart Lyonpo Khandu Wangchuk and senior officials of the Royal Government.

The visit is in keeping with the tradition of regular high-level exchanges between India and Bhutan. Ways for stepping up cooperation in mutually beneficial sectors including power, infrastructure, roads and bridges, culture, education and health are expected to figure during the talks, the news report said.

India is the biggest donor and largest trading partner of Bhutan. It also oversees external affairs and defense matters of Bhutan as per a bilateral treaty.
