A nine member media delegation visited Pakistan upon the invitation of the Islamabad Policy Research Institute (IPRI) from September 14 to 21.
During the tour of Pakistan, the delegation visited Karachi, Lahore, Taxila, Peshawar and Islamabad. The delegation visited the Quaid-e-Azam Mausoleum in Karachi on the 15th; the Badshahi Mosque in Lahore and witnessed the flag lowering ceremony at the Wagha border with India on the 16th.
The delegation then left Lahore for Taxila via Islamabad and visited the museum with Buddhist relics excavated from the surrounding areas on the 17th. After the museum visit, the delegation moved on the Peshawar.
On the 18th, from Peshawar, the delegation visited the Michni Post, which borders Afghanistan, a 2 hr drive. After the Michni Post, the Khyber Rifles mess was also visited.
The delegation then went to Swat, where the Swat museum and various Buddhist sites like Butkara-1, Butkara-3 and Saidu Stupa were visited on the 19th. The delegation then left for Islamabad where another stupa, the Shringerdar Stupa was also visited.
In Islamabad, on the 20th, an in house discussion was held at IPRI with Brig Muneer Mahmud, Director Administration, and other members of IPRI in the morning. This was followed by a meeting with the chief of the South Asia desk at the Foreign Office where a short presentation was made to the media delegation.
This was followed by a meeting with Senator Tariq Azim Khan, Minister of State for Information and Muhammad Ashraf Azim, Managing Director, Pakistan Television Corporation Ltd., Khalil Humayun, Director General External Publicity at the PTV building.
In the afternoon, the media delegation met with Prime Minister Shaukat Aziz for about 15 minutes where various issues of trade and bilateral discussions were discussed.
The media delegation then flew to Karachi on the 20th night and then returned back to Kathmandu on the 21st.
