Medal winners of 10th South Asian Games felicitated

Medal winners of the 10th South Asian Games (SAG) held in Sri Lanka were publicly felicitated in the capital Friday.

The program was jointly organized by National Sports Council and various sports associations and organizations.

Eight gold medal winners were taken around major thoroughfares of the capital on a horse drawn chariot while silver and bronze medal winners in a motor cars in a procession.

The procession consisted of cultural displays by Nepal army, armed police, Nepal police and other musical bands. Starting from Dashrath Stadium the procession had passed through major thoroughfares of the city before concluding at the stadium.

Players, council officials, representatives of various sports organizations organizations and and commoners also participated the procession.

Nepal had secured the fourth position in SAG with 9 gold, 15 silver, and 31 bronze medals.

Athlete Rajendra Bhandari set a national record by winning two gold medals, while tae-kwondo player Deepak Bista won three gold medals in three consecutive years.

Prime Minister Girija Prasad Koirala is organizing a reception in honour of the medal winners of the 10th SAG on Saturday afternoon.
