One of the constituents of the ruling eight party alliance, CPN-Maoists, has launched a publicity campaign to stage a movement to declare republic.
Addressing a press conference in Dhankuta on Sunday, Maoist central committee member, Gopal Kiranti, said that his party has launched a publicity campaign from Sunday to stage a movement to declare republic either from the streets or the parliament.
“The party rank and file will join the agitation to declare the country a republic, either from the streets or the parliament,” he added.
He argued that a government formed only after the declaration of a republic could hold the election for a constituent assembly.
He said the dollar-funded ethnic movement in the country would not succeed.
All ethnic problems can be solved only after the country is declared a federal democratic republic, he said. “Another alternative to end the monarchy in Nepal is to hold a referendum on the issue,” he further said.
The Maoists has been warning to stage a movement for declaring republic set up in the country before the elections of the constituent assembly.
