Maoists shot dead three soldiers and wounded one more while attempting to loot a bank’s valuables in Kapilvastu district Tuesday, radio reports said.
The clash occurred when the soldiers were getting off a vehicle near the branch office of Rastirya Banijya Bank (RBB) in Taulihawa, the district headquarters, the reports said.
“Due to the growing bank robbery cases, the RBB branch started keeping its cash and valuables at the nearby army barrack during the off hours. The army vehicle was there to return the same properties belonging to the bank,” the reports said.
Name of the dead soldiers could not be known immediately. The injured army man was admitted to a local hospital, according to the reports. The Maoists, a group of 7-8 persons, fled the scene on motorcycles.
Maoists also looted another Rs.145,000 from Narayani Industrial Development Bank in Chitwan Tuesday, reports said. Maoists Monday looted Rs.150,000 from the same banks’ Bharatpur branch.
Meanwhile, security sources here in Kathmandu said one Maoist was shot dead in Basey Gaon area of Nuwakot district on Monday.
