One day after Maoists agreed to begin peace talks with the government of Prime Minister Surya Bahaduir Thapa, rebels shot dead a policeman at Amarapuri in Nawalparasi district Friday morning, police said.

The policeman was identified as Bishnu Yadav. Another policeman survived the attack. The policemen were surveying flood damage in the area.

A human rights organization Friday condemned the brutal murders after the abduction of two unarmed soldiers in Sindhili this week.
