Party leaders, in an interaction program on Monday, have accused Maoists and security forces of violating civilians’ rights. In particular, such abuses are maximum in rural areas, according to them.
“Mostly, the Maoists have been abusing human rights in Nepal,” said KP Sharma Oli, senior leader of CPN-UML. “Security forces, too, are equally abusing people’s rights,” he said.
He further admitted that the parliamentarian parties committed blunder in the past 12 years of democratic practice in Nepal. “We could do more in favor of people, but we failed,” he said.
Leader of Janamorcha Nepal, Navaraj Subedi, said Maoists insurgency was the “root cause” for the rights violation cases in rural areas.
“If there was no Maoists problem, soldiers might not have penetrated into the villages,” he said.
He further said that an election for the Constituent Assembly may resolve the current problems of rights violation in Nepal.
Leader of Rastriya Prajanatra Party, Balaram Gharti Magar said an all-party government can protect people’s rights ending the current political deadlock.
“Only a government like this can bring the Maoists back to the negotiating table,” according to him.
