Suspected Maoists this week murdered a defector in Taplejung, local security agencies said. Devendra Nalbu was murdered in his village at Sandhakarka where he was living after defection from the Limbuwan Liberation Front which is affiliated with the rebel group.

Five insurgents have surrendered to local officials at district headquarters in Sindhuli, the Defence Ministry said. They hailed from Bhimsthan, Beldghari and Kamalamai in the district. Seven Maoists also surrendered in Khotang; they were members of a peasant group affiliated with the rebels.

They surrendered to benefit from an amnesty offer before Feb.12 in 2004. Government said those who surrender will be rehabilitated into society. nepalnews.com br Dec.26
