Kathmandu, June 24: A group of Maoists Friday murdered Indian grain trader Aglu Gupta at Kotatulsipur in Kailali district in far west Nepal, police said. A group of 20 rebels attacked Gupta at his shop and murdered him, police said.

Insurgents have threatened to call a nation-wide strike on July 12 to protest a draconian regulation that gives officials sweeping powers of arrest to curb strikes and other forms of protest, an announcement by underground party strongman Prachanda said.

The Maoists will torch copies of
the new regulation June 25. Prahanda said the new regulation will negate the gains of the 1990 popular movement.
